Ipswich Girls' Grammar School including Ipswich Junior Grammar School is governed by a Board of Trustees responsible for ensuring the good governance of the School and directly accountable to the Queensland Minister for Education. The day-to-day operations and leadership of the School is delegated to the Principal and Executive Management team.
Ipswich Girls' Grammar School as a statutory body was originally formed under the Grammar Schools Act 1975, until the Grammar School Act 2016 came into effect, replacing the earlier legislation with modern provisions to meet the contemporary needs of grammar schools. The Act sets out the establishment and regulation of the School, including the constitution, powers, and functions of the Board of Trustees.
The Board meets regularly throughout the year and elects a Chair and Deputy Chair from among its members, who serve in those offices for the duration of their term. A Board Secretary, employed by the School, provides administrative and governance support to the Board.
In accordance with the Act, the Board comprises between seven and nine Trustees, appointed every four years by the Governor in Council. Membership includes: three Trustees elected by and from the Roll of Electors, four Trustees nominated by the Minister, and up to two additional Trustees selected by the Board and nominated by the Minister.
Trustees serve a four-year term and, at the conclusion of their tenure, are eligible for re-election or re-appointment.
The School maintains a comprehensive Roll of Electors (known as Subscribers) based on eligibility criteria determined in accordance with the current and past provisions of the Grammar Schools Regulation 2016.
